Containers Arrive at Abbottabad from Ireland






Two 40 ft containers arrived at Disaster Management Center, Abbottabad containing medicines, clothes, beddings, shoes, crockery etc. These items were donated by Disaster Relief by Irish & Pakistanis (DRIP), Ireland.

Volunteers from Ayub Medical College and DMC are sorting these items that are being donated to the people affected by the floods. Truck load of these items will soon be sent to Gilgit soon

Kabhi Ik Bar - Song by volunteers of AMC Flood Relief & Disaster Management Center

At 1:00 PM, PST today, the song Kabhi Ik Bar was released on the internet and has been getting a tremendous response from the public all across the globe.

The team consists of volunteers from Ayub Medical College Flood Relief Campaign and Disaster Management Centre (DMC), Abbottabad. The singer, Resheeban Selvarajah is a student of Ayub Medical College belonging to Sri Lanka while the lyrics were written by Yasir Awan, of DMC. The song was composed by Resheeban along with Sarmad Ghafoor, an icon in the Pakistani music industry. Guitaring for this song was done by Rauhan Siddiqui along with Sarmad. The song is directed & produced by Dr. Noaman Siddiqui, faculty member and alumnus of Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad

Free Medical Camp, at village Kund, Besham

A Free Medical Camp was held on 25th 2011 at village Kund, Besham that was organised by the following partner organizations: -

Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad
Disaster Relief by Irish & Pakistanis (DRIP), Ireland 
Disaster Management Center, a project of Abbottnians Medical Association
Hazara Welfare (www.hazarawelfare.org)  & hazara.com.pk

On 25th January 2011, following Medical Team members from Ayub Medical College and Disaster Management Center, Abbottabad left from Ayub Medical College at 2.00 PM:  -

Dr. Noaman Siddiqui, Dr. Karim Khan, Dr. Bilal Alvi, Dr. Aneela Jadoon, Mr. Waqas Khan (Volunteer),  Mr. Tabarak Ahmad 
(Volunteer), Mr. Yasir Awan (Volunteer), Mr. Resheeban Silvarajah (Volunteer),         Mr. Tanveer (Lab. Technician),  Mr. Adam Khan (Optician), Mr. Zaheer, Mr. Nasir Khan (Driver) and      Mr. M. Hanif (Attendant).



The team reached PTDC, Besham at 8.00 PM and a Pre-camp meeting was held to discuss the strategy for the camp. On 26th, Medical Camp was conducted in the under-construction police station, village Kund. The members crossed the Indus river via cable car that was installed by 
Omar Asghar Khan Development Foundation just within a week after the main bridge was washed out by the floods of July 2010.


About 850 patients were provided free consultation, medicines, lab investigations and health education. The diseases that were found in the patients included Hypertension, Diabetes, Stroke, Acute Respiratory, Gastro-intestinal infections, Tuberculosis, Skin infections, specially Eczema & Scabies and Cataract. Eyesight of about 100 patients was tested and 66 deserving patients will be provided free glasses to be sponsored by Abbottonians Medical Association(R). 




Social activity for the children affected by the flood was held, coordinated and conducted by the team of Omar Asghar Khan Development Foundation to address psycho-social trauma. The activity included drawing and painting competitions. Every child was provided with gift and water purification bottles donated by Qurshi.

Flood Relief Camp at Ambadher, District Charsada

280 sacks of Urea Fertilizer worth Rs.300000/- were distributed amongst the local farmers of village Ambadher, Union Council Dualatpura, District Charsada on 11th January 2011.
 
This generous donation was provided by Mr. Todd Shea of Shine Humanity as per request of
Mr. Muhammad Nouman, student of COMSATS, Abbottabad. The activity was coordinated by AMC Flood Relief Campaign. Maj Khalid and Mr. Tauseef along with Mr. Nouman handed over the donation to the affected farmers.  
 
Moreover,  warm shawls donated by Ladies Club, Jinnahabad, Abbottabad were also distributed amongst the derserving people.
 



 

Meeting with NUSPA

A meeting was held between memebers of National Union of Pakistani Students & Alumni (NUPSA), Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad and COMSATS at Red Onion restaurant on 8th Jan.2011.

Prof. Salma Kundi, Vice Principal, AMC, Dr. Noaman Siddiqui, Miss Roshna Amjad (4th Year MBBS. AMC) and Mr. Ayaz Khan (4th Year MBBS. AMC) repreesented AMC while the team of NAPSA was headed by Mr. Muhammad Ammar, Vice President.

The participants had fruitful discussion regarding further strantheining of the network and also chalked out activities for the future in the region.

DRIP's Shamrock Housing Scheme for Flood Affectees

As part of 'Appna Ghar' Project by DRIP, Ireland, the first phase of ten houses has been handed over to the affectees of Floods in Muzaffargarh district. This project is in collaboration with the Punjab Rangers.

The next phase of 40 houses will be handed over in next  two weeks.

Flood Relief Camp at Ambadher, District Charsada

As per request of Mr. Muhammad Nouman, student of COMSATS, Abbottabad, a flood relief camp was held on 27th Nov. 2010 at Ambadher, Union Council Dualatpura, District Charsada. This village has been badly affected by the floods and local farmers were left with no seeds or fertilizers to grow crops which is the only way of earning their livelihood. 

104 sacks of Urea and sacks of Wheat seeds were distributed among 52 farmers badly affected by the floods. The funds were collected by Syed Zohaib Ahmad, Supervisor Finance & Administration, City Center Hotel & Residence, UAE who organized a flood relief campaign within the hotel as well as amongst friends and families. 
Quits, warm clothes, shoes and schools bags were also distributed to the flood affected population of the area that were collected by the volunteers of Ayub Medical College. The team members comprised of Mr. Naseer Khan, Mr. Ashfaq Ahmed and Mr. Muhammad Nouman from COMSATS, Abbottabad.



Moreover, 25 Cartons of Qarshi Aab-e-Nuqra and Qarshi Kare Drops donated by M/s Qashi were also provided to the deserving households. The Transportation charges of relief items from Abbottabad to Charsada were paid by hazara.com.pk & Hazara Welfare.

Free Medical Camp, Pattan, Kohistan

A free Medical Camp was held on 13th Nov. 2010 at Rural Health Center, Pattan, Kohistan that was organised by the following partner organizations: -

On 12th Nov. 2010, following Medical Team members from Ayub Medical College and Disaster Management Center, Abbottabad left AMC at 2.00 PM: -

Dr. Noaman Siddiqui, Dr. Karim Khan, Dr. Bilal Alvi, Dr. Aneela Jadoon, Mr. Waqas Khan (Volunteer), Mr. Tanveer (Lab Technician),  Mr. Adam Khan (Optician), Mr. Nasir Khan (Driver), Mr. M. Hanif (Attendant).

Team of Hazara Welfare joined rest of the entourage from Mansehra. The team reached PTDC, Besham at 8.00 PM and Pre-camp meeting was held to discuss the strategy for the camp. At 6.30 AM the team stared for their final destination and reached Pattan  at 9.00 AM. About 800 patients were provided free consultation, medicines, lab investigations and health education. Eyesight of about 100 patients was tested and 50 deserving patients will be provided free glasses to be sponsored by Abbottonians Medical Association(R).

Dr. Satbar, EDO Health visited the camp site and appreciated the efforts of all the partner organizations. Five Water filtration plants were donated by Hazara Welfare for the RHC Pattan, Jamia Mosque and local schools. A donation of routine medicines was handed over to Dr. Muhammad Geer, Medical Officer Incharge, RHC Pattan by the partner organizations.
